DIY Baby Nursery

My newest granddaughter (and her mom and dad) just relocated to North Carolina and moved into a 1960s brick ranch home. The charm of a house from this era includes hardwood floors, cozy spaces and mature trees outside.

I had the pleasure of helping set up Margaux's nursery. The inspiration came from this colorful tapestry that Margaux's Aunt Amanda sent from Mexico.

The tapestry hangs over Margaux's mini crib, which is a hand-me-down from one of her twin cousins. The crib is painted with Annie Sloan's Henrietta (lavender color) chalk paint.

Prints above the crib were shower gifts from 2 of my daughter's girlfriends...who want to make sure Margaux grows up knowing the power of women!

We mounted this print in a glass floating frame from Michaels craft store.

The closet doors were removed when the hardwood floors were refinished. We liked the open look and decided to leave them off.  Two cubbies from Ikea fit perfectly in the closet, and their fabric bins keep all the necessary baby paraphernalia and books corralled beautifully.

We hung this colorful felt mobile over the glider so Margaux can enjoy it while feeding or reading with mom and dad.

I found this fun llama pillow at Home Goods and knew he would love a place in the nursery.

Her dresser doubles as a changing table. The shelf with silver tone brackets is the perfect place to display pictures and momentos.

A clear jar is ready with bibs and burp cloths. Her name is added with a gold vinyl decal.

Of course Margaux had to have a monogram in the nursery. I painted a plain white 8" x 8" square canvas with a lavender color to tie in with the crib. Then I dry brushed it with a little bit of gray and white. The turquoise vinyl monogram decal adds a subtle finishing touch to a custom nursery.
