Tissue Paper DIY

If you are like me, you hate to throw away beautiful tissue paper. Especially the whimsical black and white check tissue paper that Mackenzie-Childs includes in their shopping bags. Cher and I are both huge fans of Mackenzie-Childs, so we wanted to see how we could "recycle" their Courtly Check tissue paper. We know that many of our readers are crafty people and would like to see what we did. Here are a few of our tissue paper DIY projects:

Cher took on a most ambitious project when she painstakingly glued the tissue paper to one of her wood monograms. This started out as a plain wood letter from Monogram Lane. I watched her as she used Mod Podge to adhere the tissue to the wood. She made lots of small cuts as she went around the letter and border. Isn't it FABULOUS! You could do this with any patterned tissue paper. Just work slowly so you don't tear the paper.

Here is a plain wood children's table that Cher embellished with more of the check tissue paper. She put a clear coat or two of Mod Podge to seal the top. Then she glued cute tassel trim around the edges. Her grandchildren love their own little table when they visit "Mumsie."

This was an old mirror that I had painted various colors over the years. I sanded off the paint, cut my tissue into four strips, and adhered the tissue paper to the frame. I attempted to miter the corners as best as I could to make it look more professional.

With the addition of a bow and old cameo brooch, I have a one-of-a-kind mirror that blends in with my Mackenzie Childs Courtly Check pieces.

I have also seen this done with cute paper napkins. If the napkins are more than 1-ply, just peel off the top layer and the result is like tissue paper. Hope you have fun with your tissue paper projects!
